Studio Brief 01 - Reflective Practice - Pop Culture

Recently two of my favourite popstars Marina and the Diamonds and Charli XCX caused an uproar on social media due to Marina commenting on a instagram post of Charli posing in tropical lemon infused photoshoot for her new fragrance line with Impulse.

Marina left a message simply stating "That FROOT looks similar" - for those who don't know that is her 2015 successful album FROOT (pictured below)

Basically Marina was trying to get at, was that she thinks Charli has copied/stole/taken her artwork for her song "Immortal".

Ironically the photograph was taken by the same photographer Charlotte Rutherford.

The photos are rather similar and in response Charli responded to Marina explaining how she had never seen her artwork and that she would never intend to copy ententially.

Who is at fault? Is Charli's similar fruit themed photoshoot stealing anything away from Marina's? Or is the photographer at fault - recycling old photoshoots?

It is really hard to say.

What I am getting at is that is it okay to use others ideas? and How far can you take it without it becoming fraud?
