This event was probably one of the most inspiring of things so far this year. This event was organised by a third year student that set up a workshop to create and celebrate the making of zines. I have previously made a zine as part of a publication brief in first year and have always been interested in making more since.
There was a work table with lots of old magazines, books, newspapers, leaflets, design work etc... and we could literally create anything using these materials.
For some reason it felt so good just to be able to rip things up and stick them down and basically create a mess. It has been so long since I have done something like this and it has certainly been lacking from my design process. At the minute I have been particularly uninspired by working digitally all the time - which is something I often struggle with and find it hard to balance out.
My zine
My aim:
Create multiple zines that follow this process or maybe create something more advanced that can be included in my portfolio work or help me expand my exposure as an artist. Zines are a great way of spreading the word about your design and they can be so personal and intricate, which is a really good way of expressing feelings or exploring topics I don't often get the chance to with studio briefs.
