Charging clients, my hourly rate and creating invoices

After finishing the A5 publication for live brief and collaboration for A Road Magazine, there was no payment involved. However, after the deadline for the magazine was complete and I had provided my own copies for the magazine for my own submission (was not necessary for the clients deadline) which cost. I was approached asking to convert the magazine layout into a A4 format, to which I took upon myself as a chance to do some paid work.

  • I had never charged a client before so this was something new for myself as a now working professional.
  • After some research into prices of hourly rates for graphic designers, I personally felt the average £40 was perhaps too much for this particular job
  • So I took it down to £18 per hour and gave the client a time frame of 2-3 hours as an average for how long it would take me
My invoice template
  • Fits in with self branding, using same type and similar layout to CV design
