Studio Brief 01 - Nest magazine launch

  • Got me connecting with people for Responsive group collaboration.
  • Ended up meeting one of my partners there for the group collaboration.
  • Inspired me to apply for Nest's next launch, which ultimately paid of as I was selected by Nest for the next issue. I put a lot of my efforts for Nest within Responsive as I wanted to be apart of it as it is a good way of getting my name out there (exposure).
  • Has helped build up my portfolio.
  • Feels really good to be part of a editorial project

"Another Planet" selected for Nest "Space" issue.

Studio Brief 01 - Salford Zine Library

To get some exposure for my zines I have sent them off to be a part of Salford Zine Library in Manchester. This is a great way to get my name out there and give myself a little bit of exposure. Through PPP this year I have learnt it is really important to apply for exhibitions, send work off to studios and to not be afraid to do. Failure is one of my biggest fears when it comes to showing my designs to the rest of the world and it is in a way in insecurity that needs to be overcome. By doing this it has helped me gain exposure and gave me the ability to be confident when sending my work out to be displayed for public viewing.

Studio Brief 01 - Behance and social media

Instagram

Although I do not have a design account for Instagram I do post a lot of my work there as I find it is just a way of expressing myself for the most part. I feel I don't necessarily need one as most of my work is personal and roots from my general interests.

I often update my "Instagram Stories" to show the process of daily life as a designer, showcasing my work and the journey it goes through - especially when a project is coming to an end and the final product comes together.

I often also share a random thought or quote, but present it in an artistic way to keep myself feeling motivated. I find this a refreshing exercise that helps boast my creativity.

Behance

This year I have learnt it is really important how you display your work across professional platforms. The way that things can be posted on Instagram or Twitter feels much more casual. However, on Behance there is a slight different aesthetic that is expected as it is basically an online portfolio and work needs to be displayed well.

Questions

Is popular culture a big inspiration for some of your work? I love your Britney illustrations, I'm 100% going to order one next pay day.

Your drawings pay so much attention to detail! What type of pens do you use to achieve this?

Who is your proudest piece of design you have created so far and why?

What was it like working for Shura? And how did the collaboration happen?

Inspired work:

Louise has been a big inspiration for my illustration style particularly this year. I have taken inspiration from her line drawings and created my own through digital art. Her drawing method is mostly done through hand drawing. For me I am not that confident with my illustration skills so prefer to draw digitally, often using photographs I have already taken to base my drawings around. Here are a few examples of my work that has been particularly inspired by her.

Inspired drawings for the Penguin book cover competition.

Inspired drawings of the models I use within my photography.

Studio Brief 01 - Photography/Photoshop experiments

Improving my photoshop skills throughout this academic year through practice has helped me a lot. Branching out by using Illustrator, Indesign and After Effects has broadened my work medium choices and shaped me as a better designer.
