Behance

https://www.behance.net/dom_96c1c0

  • Uploading work to Behance has been a positive experience for the two projects that have been added so far. I plan to update my other projects once they have been professionally photographed.
  • Using mock ups for final outcomes is something I have avoided and I believe I have gained a larger response by photographing a print version instead and including my work in context of exhibitions

  • I have received positive feedback through comments.

  • I have also engaged in conversations with other creatives, which is a cool thing to do and it feels good to support each other.

  • I decided to include a photograph of myself as my Behance profile photo instead of my logo or my branding as it give an insight to people the type of person I am. I also think its good if people see who I am as they get to see the person behind the design.

Placement - Voir Fashion Magazine

I chose to do my placement at Voir, which is a online fashion magazine company that base themselves in Leeds city centre.

I applied through email and sent over a mini portfolio of my editorial work as some examples.

I had an interview and was offered the placement on the day. It was decided I would do a three month (possibly plus) where I do a few days a week.

My time at Voir has been a great experience so far and learning how an independent magazine works has been an eye-opening experience.

So far I have been a social media content creator, a stylist and a photographer for the magazine editor's personal social media branding.

Work I have done so far:

  • Working as a team we came up with a concept for the styling of the photoshoot
  • With permission of flannels.com, Gucci and Phillip Phein were selected

(Photoshoot in recent issue)

Social Media Content

  • I was tasked with creating a social media plan on my first day at the magazine. I was told beauty shots, talent shout outs, high fashion campaigns and independent streetwear brands were to be included.
Moodboards

  • These are some of the moodboards I create whilst seeking out clothing for shoots
Next Issue  AW18 - Trends Research Moodboards

Upcoming social media plan for release of new issue

Website

  • For my website I chose to use Square Space - super easy to use and the layouts fit my contemporary take on design

  • I chose to put my top 6 projects that reflect a variety of design skills, as well as stapling my passion for editorial design

  • I kept my about section simple with a short introduction of myself
  • Linked my behance and instagram

End of Module Evaluation

This academic year I believe I have managed to successfully shown growth that makes me more of  professional working graphic designer.

With my self-branding (promo pack, website, social media) I feel confident I have put a conscious effort into creating a solid aesthetic that represents me as a person, as well as my graphic design work.

I believe I have been able to successfully create connections through social media through editorial and photography collaborations, as well as send out promo packs to photographers I have been involved with this academic year. Although I have found they have not been that successful and perhaps online connections have had more responses, which is interesting.

This year has also taught me to not be afraid to say to people that I charge for my graphic design. I feel like none graphic designers take it upon themselves to believe design is often not worth paying for, when it really is (especially now this is how I will be making money for the majority of my lifetime). So having a few clients this year that paid for my work feels like an achievement and in a way made me more confident as a working professional, and also proud that someone wants to actually pay for my work! It's a great feeling.
